Morocco on Tuesday (December 16th) presented a roadmap for the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG), Au Fait Maroc reported.
In an effort to guarantee the kingdom’s energy independence, billions will be invested in natural gas infrastructure by 2021, Industry Minister Abdelkader Amara announced.
While demand is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, ensuring the country’s electricity needs “is a race against the clock”, National Electricity and Potable Water Office (ONEE) chief Ali Fassi-Fihri said.
The first LNG terminal will emerge within five years on the Jorf Lasfar site, near El Jadida, AFP reported.
Moroccan consumers will eventually make the transition from gas cylinders to a gas network. “This phase will come when we have optimised the industrial use,” Amara said.
