A Spanish national was arrested at Bab Sebta crossing point with the Spanish enclave of Ceuta over suspected cannabis trafficking, the Moroccan official MAP news agency reported on Monday.

The arrest came after police found 80 kg of cannabis concealed in a Spanish registered car, the same source pointed out.

The suspect was handed over to the judicial police of the northern city of Tetouan for further investigation, conducted under the supervision of the prosecution.

A total of 33.7 tons of cannabis were seized at the country’s various border crossings in 2017, according to the Moroccan customs services.

According to the UN’s Office on Drugs and Crime, Morocco is the world’s largest cannabis resin harvester.
