Morocco on Sunday broke ground on a national institute for professional job training in renewable energy and energy efficiency, Moroccan news agency MAP reports.
The building is located at the Gueznaya urban commune, Tangiers-Assilah prefecture. This pilot project is expected to cost MAD 95 million (USD 9.8m/ EUR 8.7m) to complete.
It will be equipped to train operators, technicians and executives on jobs related to renewable energy and energy efficiency, mainly the operation and maintenance of wind farms and solar, thermal and photovoltaic, equipment.
The institute will help support the national energy strategy which seeks to raise the share of renewable energy to 42% of the total installed capacity in the country by 2020, with solar, wind and hydro each contributing 14%.
As part of a partnership agreement signed on May 31, 2011, under the chairmanship of King Mohammed VI, between the state and professionals of the sector of renewable energy and energy efficiency, two more institutes for renewable energy and energy efficiency trainings will open in Oujda and Ouarzazate.
