Morocco has green-lighted a trip by 900 seasonal workers to Corsica to help French farmers there save the clementine season among a shortage of labor.
An agreement to this end was reached between Morocco and France. The Moroccan workers will test for Covid-19 in departure and upon arrival.
Corsican farmers have booked five flights to transport the workers who are expected on the Mediterranean island this Friday.
Corsica’s farms are suffering from a lack of workers that worries farmers facing real prospects of seeing their crops rotting on trees.
Corsica produces 20,000 to 30,000 tons of clementine annually. Seasonal workers usually sign a contract of three to four months.
