Moroccan Octopus Prices Continue to Rise Despite High Quota

Despite a relatively high quota for the ongoing season, Moroccan octopus prices have continued to rise, sources in the country told Undercurrent News.

The Moroccan fisheries ministry has decided to open the octopus fishery in the northern area — from the Mediterranean to Tarfay — as well as the remaining southern area, near the Sahara desert, on Dec. 5.

Prices to the Japanese market in Dakhla, Morocco have risen to $11.3 per kilogram for T6, 10.5/kg (€8.90) for T7 and 9.5/kg (€8.05) for T8, according to a source.

Meanwhile, octopus block from Dakhla to Vigo are on the rise, being currently priced at around €15/kg for T1, €14/kg for T2, €13/kg for T3, €12/kg for T4, €11/kg for T5, €9/kg for T6, €7.8/kg for T7 and €6.8/kg for T8. The offer level in Dakhla was at a higher level, also.

The free on board price in Dakhla is at around €15/kg for T1, €14.5/kg for T2, €13.5/kg for T3, €12.5/kg for T4, €11.5/kg for T5 and €9.30/kg for T6.
