Maria Salinas earns LET membership in Morocco
Maria Salinas of Peru did her best at the Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013, as she finished tied for the 9th position after posting an overall 349 on the leaderboard.
Salinas got off to a fast start to her campaign on Thursday as she shot a 66. She shared the second position with Aussie Nikki Campbell, but lost her position in the next round because she posted an unimpressive 74.
Salinas was one of the amateurs who proved their mettle at the LET (Ladies European Tour) Q School 2013. More importantly, the young gun has managed to grab her LET card, which was her biggest aim of the year.
The Peruvian star improved her position a little in the third round after she posted a 70. But it was not enough to keep her inside the top 5. Her nearest rivals made their way up the leaderboard.
Thai Ariya Jutanugarn, who posted a 68 in the first round, was able to crawl her way up to the top after the third round. She carded a massive 64 in the third round on Saturday to take the solo lead.
Despite stiff competition, Salinas kept coming back as she registered a 69 in the fourth round to jump settle for the share of 6th position. However, shooting a 70 in the last and fifth round caused her to slip to 9th position on the leaderboard.
Maha Haddioui was also one of the few star performers who came back from behind. She made a slow start to her campaign as she shot a 73, but boosted her position to 20thafter carding a 67 in the fifth round.
Speaking to the media about her stunning form, Maha said that she has been seeking to prove her mettle in Morocco, and this year has seen her unveil her best game.
She went on to say that a rigorous practice helped her fix most of the flaws in her putting and short game.
“I knew it was the last nine holes so I was like, ‘this is now or never, or next year, basically!’ That gave me a little boost,” Maha said.
