Surrey-based Mott MacDonald is providing technical advice for the 300MW Tarfaya wind farm in Morocco.
The consultancy will be on hand throughout the construction and operation of the scheme and has already provided contract, technical, environmental and social due diligence services in its development phase.
Construction at the €450m project in Morocco’s southern coastal desert has already kicked off. Tarfaya, which is a consortium venture by GDF Suez and energy company Nareva Holding, will feature 131 Siemens 2.3MW turbines and be one of the largest wind projects in Africa when completed by the end of next year.
Mott MacDonald project director Clare Rhodes-James said: “Electricity demand growth in Morocco has averaged 6% per year since 1998 and will continue to grow in the next 20 years. Wind energy provides carbon-free electricity and by building the Tarfaya wind farm 900,000 tons of CO2 emissions a year will be avoided.”
