A Luxembourg economic mission to Morocco, led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, has ended with a day dedicated to sectors logistics and shipping, held in Tangiers.
The delegation as met by the wali of the region Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and governor of the Tangier-Assilah prefecture, Mohamed Mhidia, before going to Tanger-Med port (Tangier Med).
President of Tanger Med port, Fouad Brini, presented the infrastructure of the Tangier Med port. Due to its geographical location in northern Morocco and close to the Spanish coast, this logistics platform is a hub for trade with Europe.
On the sidelines of the visit of Tanger Med, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, announced the creation of a Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office (LTIO) in Casablanca to better support current partnerships and develop the potential for increased cooperation between Morocco and Luxembourg.
The Ministry of the Economy has a network of LTIO that provide support to Luxembou rg companies wishing to develop their activities abroad and are responsible for the economic promotion of the Grand Duchy around the world. The creation of the Morocco LTIOis in line with the government program that to expand the LTIO network, especially in high-potential markets such as Africa.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, said, “By serving both Luxembourg companies wishing to develop their activities abroad and international companies wishing to set up in Luxembourg, LTIO contribute to strengthening the role of international and European crossroads that our country plays. The potential for collaboration and mutual exchange between Morocco and Luxembourg shows the importance and the interest of the establishment of a Luxembourg presence for accompany and support these developments”.
The seminar “Exploring the opportunities for collaboration between Morocco and Luxembourg in the field of logistics” was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Economy and focused on the development of relations in logistics and maritime affairs between both countries.
Tanger-Med 2 of Tangier port was inaugurated last July to bolster Morocco’s position in the Mediterranean Sea region with a significant increase in cargo capacity.
Tanger-Med 2 connects with 77 countries and 186 ports, benefitting from its location on the western Mediterranean Sea coastline and close to Atlantic Ocean sea lanes. It also benefits greatly from a developed hinterland, where preferential financial terms have encouraged many international businesses to set up manufacturing facilities, exporting goods to Europe and worldwide.
Tanger Med 2 port contains two container terminals, TC3 and TC4. Marsa Maroc, the main operator of ports in Morocco, will operate TC3, which has a capacity of 1 million TEUs. TC4 is operated to APM Terminals, an international container terminal operating company headquartered in the Netherlands, and has a capacity of 5 million TEUs.
