Labour alarmed by possible new wave of migration
The Labour Party warns that Malta cannot absorb new wave of migration in the light of a food crisis in neighboring countries.
PL spokesperson Noel Farrugia warned that Malta cannot absorb large numbers of what he terms “illegal immigrants”
Labour spokesperson, Noel Farrugia said that during the latest 5 5 meeting, the Maltese government was informed of the imminent food crisis in neighboring countries such as Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.
Farrugia slammed the government for failing to inform Parliament about this crisis and warned “the situation increases the possibility of facing a new wave of illegal immigration when the country is unable to absorb huge numbers of illegal immigrants in the coming years.”
He said “Parliament should be made aware of what Malta’s role is and could be in regards to this matter.”
The Labour spokesperson for international development aid explained that the crisis will affect over 300 million persons. He added that “the situation is so grave that the 5 5 countries including Malta, committed themselves to identify and implement solutions, including a plan to improve and reform agriculture to tackle the problem in the best way possible by 2030.”
