Rabat – Infant mortality rate (under 5 years old) dropped from 47 per 1000 in 2001 to 36 per 1000 in 2010, Morocco’s statistics office, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) said.
This decrease has affected rural areas with a fall of 39% wheares the rate dropped by 18%, the HCP said in a note published on occasion of the World Population Day.
Following the same falling trend, maternal mortality rate posted a significant decrease from 227 cases out of 100,000 births over the 1994-2003 period to 112 cases in 2010, the same source added.
