RABAT, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) — German Development Bank has provided a loan of 62 million U.S. dollars to Morocco for a wind farm project, an official statement said Wednesday.
The statement said the loan aimed to diversify the North African country’s energy resources and promote renewable energy possibilities.
The project will allow Morocco to increase its electricity generated by wind energy to 2,000 MW by 2020.
Situated near the northeastern city of Taza, the entire project will cost 220 million euros (about 292 million U.S. dollars), and will be the first wind farm developed in the Integrated Wind Programme of 1,000 MW.
The farm is designed to respect the international norms and standards in terms of the protection of environment, and will help to avoid the emission of about 400,000 tons of CO2 each year, the statement added.
