Infrastructure and transport are key factors for the growth and competitiveness of Mediterranean countries in the global system of trade in goods and capital as well as human mobility, and is also the main factor in regional integration.
To increase the training and qualification of those working with logistics platforms in order to improve human resource standards in the sector, the secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) will be holding the Logismed Training Activities (Logismed-TA) conference on June 17 at its headquarters in Barcelona’s Pedralbes Palace. The conference is sponsored by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and supported by the 43 member states of the UfM. The Logismed-TA project, UfM sources told ANSamed, aims to create a Euro-Mediterranean network of logistics platforms with shared quality standards and in line with international good practice norms, by using shared protocols, data exchange and IT know-how. To this end, regional initiatives have been started, such as seminars, technical assistance and training activities, including the development of national logistics associations, sector administration programmes, the promotion of the European Logistics Associations (ELA), certification of 300 logistics professionals, the creation of ‘train the trainers’, a training programme for 15 staff members of logistics platforms, as well as training programmes and refresher courses for 200-400 of those working on the platforms. In the initial phase, Logismed-TA will be developed in ten Mediterranean countries and five logistics platforms, which include Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia, where the projects in the sector are the most advanced.
The programme, launched by the EIB, is part of the Regional Transport Action Plan 2007-2013 of the Euro-Med Transport cooperation plan, which aims to speed up economic development and job creation in southern Mediterranean countries.
