Brussels – The European Union (EU) wants to increase its cooperation with Morocco in the field of clean energy, said the spokesperson for the EU Energy Commissioner, Marlene Holzner.
The EU fully supports Morocco’s commitment towards a green economy and wishes to enhance its cooperation with the Kingdom in this area, particularly with regard to the second phase of the solar power station of Ouarzazate, said Holzner in a statement to MAP news agency.
She recalled that the first phase of the Ouarzazate plant has received grants from the Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership (FEMIP) and concessional loans from the European Investment Bank (EIB), as well as a significant commitment of EU several Member States.
The first phase of the solar Ouarzazate plant also benefited from grants and loans from the German Financial Cooperation (KfW) and the French Development Agency (AFD) through the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) run by the World Bank, she added.
Holzner also pointed out that the EU cooperates with Morocco for the promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency, notably through a specific budget support program.
