The DESERTEC Foundation and the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ADEREE) have announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in renewable energy development and energy efficiency. The pair will exchange knowledge and expertise to develop energy policies and regulations.
“Morocco is not just a visionary in the region, but also a successful pioneer in the global transition to renewables, where ADEREE plays a key role. We are very happy to support their work in this context,” said DESERTEC director Thiemo Gropp.
ADEREE is currently promoting sustainable energy development, with a focus on the economy and local communities.
Morocco is currently working towards some very ambitious renewable energy targets, with the country aiming to rapidly expand its installed base of renewables. By 2020, the government is aiming for installed renewables capacity to reach 42% of total production capacity, whilst lowering energy usage by 12%.
