Benkirane: Morocco Reforms Have Strengthened Its Position As EU Partner

Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane has said that “political, economic and social reforms in Morocco have contributed to the kingdom’s stability and security and enhanced its status as an essential partner of the EU.”

Following Benkirane’s meeting on Tuesday with EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini in Rabat, The Moroccan prime minister’s office said in a statement that “reforms undertaken by Morocco have made it a central actor in the African continent and the Maghreb region.”

According to the statement, Benkirane discussed with Mogherini a range of common issues, including illegal immigration, development in the African continent and prospects for cooperation in the Mediterranean basin.

The two sides noted to the quality of partnership between Morocco and the European Union and the level of coordination between the two parties on a range of vital issues, including political, security, economic and social dimensions.

According to the statement, Mogherini noted the important role played by Morocco in the Maghreb region, the Mediterranean Basin and the African continent.

She also renewed the European Union’s support for the reforms the Kingdom of Morocco has been undertaking.
