African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat visited Morocco on Nov. 3-4, the first by an AU head since Morocco’s return to the pan-African bloc last February.

During the visit, Faki and King Mohamed VI of Morocco had in-depth discussions on a number of key issues of strategic importance that are currently occupying AU’s attention, the AU said in a statement on Sunday.

The discussions focused on AU institutional reform, promotion of peace and security, efforts to advance governance and democracy, economic integration, environment, migration, the promotion of youth and women, as well as strategic partnerships, the statement said.

The exchanges were marked by a spirit of frankness and openness, and there was a convergence of views on all the issues discussed, said the statement. Enditem
