Rabat – Advanced regionalisation is a new governance model that Morocco is preparing to adopt as part of bold reforms spurred by HM King Mohammed VI, Minister Delegate to the Foreign Minister Youssef Amrani said.
Speaking following talks with President of Belgium’s constitutional court Marc Bossuyt, Amrani said that advanced regionalisation will give new powers to decentralised collectivities.
Amrani also recalled the participative approach adopted in elaborating the Morroccan model of advanced regionalisation, adding that political parties, associations and other civil society activists took part in this process.
This project originated in a Royal initiative aiming at elaborating a Moroccan model of advanced regionalisation that takes into account regional specificities along with the requirements of economic and social development, Amrani went on to say.
He added that the talks with Bossuyt focused on exchanging experience in the field of decentralisation as well as bilateral relations.
For his part, Bossuyt commended Morocco’s efforts to strengthen democracy as “very important in the Mediterranean region.”
