Illegal garment factory floods in Morocco, 28 dead

At least 28 people have died after heavy rains flooded an illegal garment factory in northern Morocco. Local authorities said firefighters were able to rescue 18 workers from the facility in Tangier, as the water reached a depth of three metres.

Factories in Morocco have increasingly relied on unregulated “shadow factories” to meet international demand. They subcontract to illegal units to better compete with cheaper Chinese and Turkish products.
