Rabat – Settling the Sahara issue should go through a mutually acceptable political process, President of the European Parliament said on Sunday in Rabat.
Schulz, who was speaking at a joint press conference with Lower House Speaker Karim Ghellab, said that neither the European Parliament nor the EU can resolve this issue.
In a statement to MAP, he made it clear that the status quo is unsustainable and that Maghreb countries have a lot to gain if this issue is settled through a political process.
Schulz recalled that the EU supports the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy in his efforts to find a just and mutually acceptable solution to this conflict.
