Morocco welcomed 8.11 million tourists in the first nine months of 2014, a gain of 4 percent compared to the same period in 2013, Managing Director of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) Abderrafie Zouiten said.
Revenues from non-resident tourists increased 1.9 percent to 44.9 billion dirhams, according to the figures revealed at the meeting of the ONMT Board of Directors, held under the chairmanship of the Tourism Minister, Lahcen Haddad.
In the January-September period, overnight stays in hotels increased by 5 percent to 15.32 million overnight stays.
“Growth during the first five months was 9% before declining to 4% between June and September because of the combined effect of the outbreak of the Ebola virus, the geopolitical situation in the MENA region and the postponement of the African Nations Cup”.
