A group of Sahrawi protesters attacked the offices of the Polisario Front ((Frente Popular de Liberación de Saguía el Hamra y Río de Oro) in Tinduf, demanding the resignation of the secretary Mohamed Abdelaziz, also President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR). The demonstration, which follows one on Saturday outside the Polisario offices leading to clashes and the arrest of three youths, emphasises the discontent especially among the young Sahrawi over the lack of progress in negotiations with Morocco.

During yesterday’s attack on the offices, the youths demanded the arrest of their three companions arrested Saturday, all members of a reformist group calling for change in the Polisario leadership and Aziz’s resignation.

Ahead of the resumption this month in New York of UN mediated talks with the Rabat government, President Abelaziz hinted “cautious optimism”, though many believe that if they should fail again a return to arms would be practically inevitable.
