The second edition of “Women in Africa” (WIA) Initiative summit opened Thursday in the Moroccan city of Marrakech, under the theme “looking at Africa with confidence, believing in its talents.”
The summit sees the participation of nearly 400 people from 70 countries, and 50 African and international speakers.
Morocco’s King Mohammed VI said that African women have made outstanding academic achievement and an ever-growing participation in the job market, which led to a more effective presence for African women in the political, economic and social fields.
As part of its development process, Africa is called upon to leverage all its assets and resources, especially highly qualified African women, he pointed out.
The king stressed that measures aimed at achieving gender equality should be the cornerstone of sustainable development strategy.
