Autonomy Plan

The violent protests that have been shaking the Tindouf camps for several months translate the deep discontent and rebellion against the Polisario, considered by most Sahrawis as a tool used by Algeria to block any settlement of the Western Sahara conflict, said a Sahrawi who returned to Morocco after he spent several years in Tindouf.
Bamba Haideb who is now settled in Dakhla explained that the frequent upheavals in the Tindouf camps “show the dissatisfaction of people who have been suffering for over forty years.”
The youths in particular can no longer bear oppression, deprivation and absence of any hope that there is a quick solution likely to end their ordeal.
It is in this context that increasing numbers of the Sahrawis living in the Tindouf camps openly support the Morocco-proposed autonomy plan.
Bamba Haideb who endeavors to help families’ reunion and to encourage the reunification of Sahrawis wherever they are, pleads for ??parallel diplomacy to help settle the regional conflict over Western Sahara.
In Spain, where he had settled for a while, Bamba Haideb had set up the World Organization for Moroccan Sahrawis’ Reunion (OMSM.) Once back to Morocco, he got in touch with other former residents of the Tindouf camps adhering to his action in favor of Sahrawi families’ reunification. The OMSM has a strong network that extends, besides Morocco, to the Tindouf camps, Mauritania, Spain, and elsewhere in the world.
The organization defends the “territorial integrity and unity of our country. We endeavor to reunite our countrymen and to help them come back home,” says Bamba Haideb who does not hide his excitement as his NGO is about to hold an international convention of the world Sahrawis in Dakhla.
