Hundreds of scientists, technocrats, policy makers and administrators will throng to Amritsar to provide much-needed scientific exposure about water energy and food security nexus and provides a road map for better Management of these resources in the future.
Scientists from Bangladesh, Nepal, Libya,, Ethopia, Nigeria and so on have so far confirmed their participation. Amritsar-based Guru Arjan Dev Institute of Development Studies will host this three-day international seminar on the theme ‘Water Energy and Food Security Nexus from February 8 to February 10, 2013 in the conference hall of Guru Nanak Bhawan of Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar.
The seminar is jointly sponsored by the Government of India through its Ministry of Earth Science and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Ministry of Science and Technology. Dr. Amitava Mukherjee Former Senior Expert, Micro Economic Policy and Development Division, United Nations, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok (UNESCAP) has consented to inaugurate the seminar. He will speak on Food Insecurity and Management of Risks
Dr Kainth further disclosed that Dr Golam Rasul, Division Head Economic Analysis Division, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, Kathmandu, Nepal in his key note address will speak on ”Food, Water and Energy Nexus in South Asia and the Role of Himalayan Ecosystems”.
Chairman of the Research Advisory Council of the institute; Former President of Indian Economic Association and presently Vice Chancellor of Chandigarh University, Dr Rajinder Singh Bawa will preside over the seminar. Nearly 40 research papers will be presented and discussed in the three days deliberation in six different technical sessions.
