Washington, Oct. 21, 2011 – The United States has congratulated Morocco on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a two-year term, the Department of State said on Friday.

“The U.S. congratulates Morocco on being elected to the UN Security Council. Morocco joins the Security Council for a third term at a time when the UN confronts serious threats to international peace and security,” Andy Halus, the US State Department’s Deputy Spokesman for the Near Eastern Affairs Bureau, told MAP.

He added that the United States looks forward to working closely and constructively with the Kingdom on the Council on global challenges.
