Austria’s VTU Energy provided the plant accounting and settlement system for the recently-opened Noor 1 solar park in Morocco.

Situated at the borders of the Sahara desert, Noor 1 was built by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power International and produces up to 160 MW of electricity from half a million mirrors in a parabolic trough field. Noor 1 solar plant in Morocco.

Utilizing molten salt storage, the plant can provide electricity to the grid for up to three hours after sunset.

VTU Energy’s settlement system for the plant not only processes metering data, but also contains a complex set of formulas to evaluate efficiency and availability guarantees.

VTU Energy managing director Peter Pechtl said that Noor 1 was “an important step on our growth path. The North African region is highly interesting for internationally funded power plant projects.”

POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe is taking place in Milan from 21-23 June. VTU Energy is at Booth 4HF41.
