French renewable power plants operator Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTS) has recently signed its first private contract in Morocco with a 40 MW hydro power plant, Moroccan daily L’economiste reports.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Volta Maroc, the local unit of the French renewable energy company, has been operating in Morocco for several months and does not hide its ambitions to take part in the projects that are being developed by Morocco’s agency for solar energy Masen, including the final, photovoltaic phase of the Noor solar power complex in Ouarzazate.

Voltalia targets to have 1 GW of renewable energy capacity under management by 2022, up from 376 MW at the end of December 2015.

The French company is actively developing in emerging markets with a strong focus on Brazil and Morocco. In 2015 alone, it delivered an installed capacity of 243 MW, of which 105 MW came online in the fourth quarter.
