Upcoming elections in Kuwait will cement democracy further — Moroccan FM

(MENAFN – Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Forecast parliamentary elections in Kuwait “will bring new blood” to the legislative body and will constitute a new opportunity to affirm “democratic maturity” of people of the Gulf state, said a ranking official.

The polls, due on February 2, will bolster further the democratic system and re-assert the National Assembly (Parliament) as a legislative authority that supervises performance of the executive authority, said Saad-Eddine Al-Othman, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in a statement to KUNA.

Kuwait, since the 60s of the past century, has adopted a ruling system, based on power-sharing and respect of the people will of choosing their representatives through elections, said Al-Othman.

The polls will be a new opportunity to affirm the democratic maturity of the Kuwaiti people, in shadow of substantial political freedoms, enjoyed by the people and protected by the National Constitution, the minister said, noting the Kuwaitis’ keenness on maintaining national unity and solidarity.

Morocco and Kuwait are identical in terms of their keenness on bolstering democracy, he said, also noting the two countries’ keenness on reinforcing role of the constitutional authorities, pressing ahead on the path for development, progress and prosperity, Al-Othman added in the interview with the Kuwaiti news agency.

On bilateral ties, Al-Othman expressed satisfaction at existing level of these relations.

The Kuwaiti-Moroccan relations have been bolstered at various levels due to guidelines of the inspired top leaders of the two countries, King Mohammad VI and His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The foreign minister affirmed keenness of the Moroccan government on cementing further the bilateral relations with Kuwait, encouraging Kuwaiti enterprises in Morocco and coordinating political stances of the two states.
Kuwaiti officials in Morocco are warmly welcome, he said, calling on leaders of the Gulf state to visit his country for fresh exchange of views within framework of the fruitful and constructive bonds linking Kuwait and Morocco.
