UN Under-Secretary-General and UNDP Associate Administrator, Rebecca Grynspan, praised, Thursday in Rabat, the efforts made by the Moroccan government to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
“I applaud the efforts of the government in the area of MDGs as the 2015 deadline draws near,” the UN official told MAP after talks with the head of government, Abdelilah Benkirane.
However, she stressed that “there are two indicators below expectations: maternal mortality and school dropout,” welcoming the measures taken by the government to improve these indicators.
Rebecca Grynspan indicated that her talks with Benkirane were an opportunity to review the progress made by the Kingdom in the MDGs and measures taken to improve some indicators.
The UN official is visiting Morocco to participate in the regional conference organised by the parliament on June 5-6 in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the UNDP on “the evolution of the relationship between citizens and parliament in the Arab region.”
Grynspan had also talks with speakers of the two houses of Parliament.
