United Nations envoy Christopher Ross will arrive in the Maghreb region this week to restart Western Sahara negotiations, the UN News Centre reported on Friday (March 15th).

During his two-week trip, Ross will meet with Moroccan and Polisario officials, visit Western Sahara and hold consultations with neighbouring Algeria and Mauritania.

“The current conflict in Mali and the heightened risks of instability and insecurity in the Sahel and beyond make a solution to the Western Sahara conflict more urgent than ever,” UN spokesperson Eduardo del Buey said.
