New York – The UN Security Council’s presidential statement supporting the joint Special Envoy UN /Arab League Kofi Annan in his mediation efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully in Syria is in “perfect harmony” with the Arab League’s resolutions, Morocco’s ambassador to the UN, Mohamed Loulichki, told the press on Wednesday.
“What was decided today in the presidential statement is perfectly consistent with the decisions of the Arab League,” the ambassador said immediately after the adoption by the fifteen of the presidential text, adding that “Morocco, as a representative of Arab countries within the UN security Council, has actively contributed to the process that led to the adoption of this statement.
“We are convinced that as of the implementation of the points included in the presidential statement, the UN Secretary General in consultation with his counterpart of the Arab League continue their joint efforts” to resolve the crisis “as soon as possible, “the diplomat added.
Loulichki expressed the wish of Morocco, which has “many ties of brotherhood and friendship with the Syrian people”, that this “clear message”, a result of “collective efforts” provided by all Council members, may augur the breaking of the deadlock in the the Syrian crisis
