Peter Uihlein, a former U.S. Amateur champion and All-America selection at Oklahoma State, has a distinctly international plan to achieve his professional dreams.
Chubby Chandler, Uihlein’s manager with International Sports Management, told GolfChannel.com on Tuesday that one of America’s top prospects will play as many as 10 events over the next few months in eight different countries.
“He’s really doing something unprecedented,” Chandler said.
Uihlein will begin his year at the European Challenge Tour’s Gujarat Kensville Challenge in late January in India followed by stops in Qatar; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Puerto Rico (his only scheduled PGA Tour stop); Morocco; Kenya; Malaysia and Korea.
Chandler said Uihlein, who skipped his last semester at OSU to turn pro, plans to focus on playing the European and Challenge tours to improve his world ranking and eventually earn his way onto the PGA Tour.
“There’s no point in getting stuck between the two tours (America and Europe),” said Chandler, who spent last weekend in south Florida with Uihlein and his father, Acushnet Co. chairman and CEO WallyUihlein. “He wants to be a complete world player and feels this is the way to do it.”
