BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Fatah and Hamas representatives met in Morocco on Monday to discuss national reconciliation, Fatah leader Tawfiq Tirawi said Tuesday.
Tirawi, who represented Fatah at the meeting, told Ma’an the talks were held at the invitation of Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party.
Party representatives discussed the next steps after the implementation of the reconciliation agreement signed in Cairo, al-Tirawi said, adding that the meeting was not a substitute for talks in Cairo.
The Fatah official thanked Morocco for its initiative and willingness to provide technical and material support for national reconciliation.
Fatah leader President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas chief Khalid Mashaal met in Cairo on Wednesday to discuss the long-delayed implementation of the unity deal, signed in May 2011.
The two sides have so far failed to put the deal into practice to reunify Palestine’s leadership.
