Nouakchott – Sahrawi activists brandished on Tuesday Moroccan flags, and distributed leaflets supporting the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara, said the Sahrawi opposition movement “Khat Achahid”.

In a release quoted by Mauritanian information sites, the movement notes that “for the first time in the history of the Polisario (Algerian-backed secessionist movement), Moroccan flags were brandished and leaflets supporting the Moroccan autonomy plan were distributed.
“The camps population woke up on Tuesday morning to find Moroccan flags posted in several locations, particularly in the sand belt surrounding the camps “, the movement reports, noting that leaflets supporting autonomy and calling for an end to the sufferings of the Lahmada camps were signed by a group of young activists called “stop to 40 years of refuge and tearing apart”.
No wonder that security agents started to take out the Moroccan flags and collect the leaflets while also arresting a group of young people known for being tired of the tragic situation and for opposing corruption of the leaders who are only after their own interests at the expense of the population’s.
