The four-day event, the biggest assemblage of African football physicians, will provide a key platform to raise awareness on major issues in football medicine and highlights the latest findings and research initiatives in Africa and around the world.
The congress confirms CAF’s commitment towards promoting the health of athletes, sports medicine and training of sports physicians to ensure that African footballers engage in the healthiest sports.
Topics to be discussed include Football for health; Cardiac assessment for every sportsman; Echocardiography of the Footballer; Sudden death – causes and means of prevention; Injury prevention; Nutrition for optimal performance; Management of Diabetic Athletes in Competition and Prevention and the medical management of movements of crowds in football stadiums amongst others.
All CAF Medical Committee members chaired by Mr. Adoum Djibrine will be present at the Congress in addition of distinguished physicians including Prof. Jiri Dvorak (President of F-Marc) Dr. Guru Singh (President of AFC Medical Committee), Prof. Hosny Abdel Rahman (Vice Chairman, CAF Medical Committee), Dr. Zakia Bartagi (Member of CAF Medical Committee and Congress Coordinator) and a host of other seasoned physicians will serve as resource persons.
The congress is open to participation for Medical Officers of the National Associations affiliated to CAF as well as Sports Medicine Officials and professionals.
The maiden edition of the congress was held in Cairo-Egypt in 2005. The second edition followed in 2007 in Accra-Ghana and the third in 2009 in Kigali-Rwanda.
