Riad Arabia's plunge poolSpecialist Morocco has added Riad Arabia to its wide collection of Marrakech properties; the three-bedroomed riad is only available on an exclusive hire basis to enable guests to enjoy total privacy.

The riad – which is centrally located in the ancient Medina, just a few minutes’ stroll from the souks and the main square – was built around 120 years ago by a Berber Prince who gave the property to his favourite mistress as a gift; a romantic hideaway where he could indulge in his amorous love affair in private.

Subsequently, it was the home of an aristocratic Moroccan family for several decades and, more recently, in the late 1990?s, it was bought by a global pop-icon and used as her home-away-from-home.

Between 2006 and 2010 the riad was totally renovated and re-decorated in a traditional Moroccan style.

The tree-filled central courtyard features a large plunge pool with a restful ‘bhou’ (outdoor living room); the ground floor also features a large salon with sound system, books, games and TV/DVD.

A second smaller salon, complete with open fire to ward off the chill on winter’s evenings, is located on the first floor.

The riad has free WiFi and a Bose-sound system throughout.

Two of the ensuite bedrooms are located on the first floor whilst a third is located on the second floor.

On the top of the riad is a spacious sunny roof terrace, perfect for breakfast, sundowner cocktails, al fresco dining or simply for soaking up the sunshine.

Specialist Morocco’s local manager is on hand to arrange transfers for guests and to help organise day trips, activities and to advise on the best local restaurants.

Riad Arabia’s housekeeper and Berber-cook Rashida takes great pride in taking care of guests during their stay and will prepare exquisite Moroccan meals on request.

A four-night break at Riad Arabia costs from £269 pp (six sharing) or £599 if two people share. Price includes airport transfers, daily breakfast, dinner on the first night, guided tour of the Medina and a choice of a day trip or activity.
