Spanish PM To Visit Morocco Soon

Madrid – New Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said on Tuesday he will pay “very soon” an official visit to Morocco, as part of his first trip abroad.

In an interview with Spanish news agency “EFE,” Rajoy said that his first official trip abroad will be in Morocco, a country he will visit “in a relatively short time.”

He said his cabinet is already in contact with the new Moroccan government to agree on a suitable date which fits both parties’ agendas.

The decision of Rajoy to pay his first official visit abroad in Morocco meets a tradition maintained by his predecessors once arrived at the Moncloa palace, said the Spanish media.

On January 3, HM King Mohammed VI received a phone call from the new Spanish Premier, in which the Sovereign and Rajoy highlighted the quality of the Moroccan-Spanish relations, based on centuries-old friendship of multi-sectoral partnership and good neighbourliness.

HM the King and Rajoy also expressed their will to deepen relations between the two kingdoms, both in the context of their distinguished bilateral strategic partnership as well as the privileged status linking Morocco to the European Union.
