Spain’s Interior Ministry says Spanish and Moroccan police have arrested seven suspected members of a cell that allegedly recruited jihadists to fight in Syria and other places.

A ministry statement said Friday three were arrested in Morocco, three in the Spanish north African coastal enclave of Melilla, which borders Morocco, and another on in mainland Spain.

It said one of the seven had returned recently after having spent time with al-Qaida-linked groups.

There were no immediate details on the nationalities of the seven.

Spanish police arrested eight suspected jihadist militants in a similar operation last year in Spain’s other north African enclave, Ceuta.
