Rabat – Morocco’s efforts to empower women and its achievements in the field of protecting women’s rights were at the heart of talks on Wednesday in Rabat between Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development Minister Bassima Hakkaoui and UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet.
During the meeting, Hakkaoui said highlighted the measures taken in Morocco to empower women, notably at the legal level, citing in this respect the Family Cose and the Fund for family solidarity.
She said the new constitution enshrines gender equality, adding that the supreme law will enable Morocco to forge ahead with consolidating the role of women in the political, economic and social scenes.
Hakkaoui also voiced willingness to cooperate with the UN with a view to putting an end to violence against women.
For her part, the UN Women Executive Director said her visit to Morocco has a special character, as it coincides with the celebration of the International Women’s Day.
She said Morocco is a model in the region given the judicial reforms it adopted to promote women’s rights.
