Rabat – Sun-powered Solar Impulse was compelled to return to Rabat-Salé airport due to unexpected strong headwinds which hindered the aircraft’s advancement to its final destination, Ouarzazate, the flight organisers said.
“The solar aircraft was unexpectedly met with strong headwinds and turbulence between Casablanca and Marrakesh,” organisers said in Solar-Impulse website.
The same source said that the aircraft and the pilot are not in danger.
Solar Impulse”, which carried out its first intercontinental flight in Morocco, took off on Wednesday from the Rabat-Salé airport at 7:10 a.m.
The aircraft, which flies without fuel or polluting emissions, had arrived in Morocco on June 5 coming from Spain.
