Rabat –
Member countries of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) consider that settlement of the crisis in Mali should be “comprehensive” and “not limited to the military aspect”, said on Sunday Libyan minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Mohamed Abdelaziz.
UN mission in Mali “should not be restricted to the conventional peace-keeping mission” but should operate according to a comprehensive vision to settle the crisis, in coordination with the Economic community of West African states (ECOWAS), said the Mauritanian official in a press conference held at the end of the 31st session of the UMA foreign ministers council convened this Sunday in Rabat.
The UN mission should be more particularly extending assistance for the reconstruction of the Malian state and for democratic transition, through free and transparent elections and the renewal of the state institutions, he added.
In the same context, Mauritanian foreign minister, Hamadi Ould Hamadi, said the Rabat meeting reached a harmonious vision regarding the crisis in Mali, guaranteeing the security of this West African country.
The UN Security Council had approved last April to deploy as of July the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, or Minusma.
