Rabat – Salaheddine Mezouar was re-elected, early on Sunday, to a second term at the head of the National Rally for Independents (RNI) party.
Mezouar won the elections, held within the 5th RNI National Meeting, with 1928 votes in favour, while his rival Rachid Sassi received 115 votes.
During the meeting, light was shed on the RNI’s role in social changes, the party’s openness to the youthful and women as well as its place in the national political scene.
“The party’s alignement with the opposition reflects the clarity of its political choice,” said Mezouar.
The RNI’s National Council will have to meet in the upcoming two weeks to elect the members of the political bureau and the five committees provided for in the party’s statute, he said.
Born on December 11, 1953 in Meknes, Mezouar served in senior state positions. He was appointed Minister of Industry, trade and Upgrading of the Economy in 2004. Three years later, he was appointed Minister of Economy and Finance.
