Said OualiIt has nearly been a year since the fight world has seen Said Quali 28-4 (20), but come September 21st, thestinging southpaw returns against the hard hitting Karlo Tabaghua 18-3 (13). The two will square off for the vacant IBF Inter-Continental welterweight title, September 21, 2012, at the Lotto Arena, in Antwerpen, Belgium, on a card promoted by the Belgium based BFN Group. Nicknamed, “Prince”, the Morocco born boxer tallied up an impressive amateur career of 80-3 (56), and as a professional has beaten the likes of Grover Wiley (UD), Sven Paris (8th TKO), and Hector David Saldivia (1st TKO).

Ouali’s last outing was an upsetting loss to Carson Jones via seventh round TKO due to swelling of the eye. Now, he is set to return to the ring, and in this exclusive interview we get thoughts on his return and more, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr.: You have been away from the fight game about a year now, how excited are you to get back in the ring and mix things up?

Said Ouali: I am very excited, it has been a long year, September 21st is going to be the day.

BH: Why the one year layoff?

SO: My contract with Floyd Mayweather ended, and BFN approached me with a good opportunity, so I sit down and talked things over with my people. It actually took about a full year to make it happen because it is going to be a big show. It just needed some time to make things happen.

BH: Your last outing against Carson Jones did not go your way, looking back, how heart breaking was it to lose that fight, I mean, you didn’t lose by decision,l or by knock out, but because your eye was swollen shut.

SO: Believe me, you said it, it is heartbreaking. If somebody beats you fair and square in the ring at least you know what happened. You watch boxing, and you see people with swollen eyes, and if the corner has enswell then they should be able to take care of it. I hate to blame people, but a little bit of ice could of probably helped out.

BH: You are heading back to Belgium, not your birthplace, but basically your hometown. How exciting is it for you to return home?

SO: It is my home town, when I fought there last time, so many people came and supported me, this show coming up with BFN it is going to be much bigger. I am real excited and I cannot wait. I hope my opponent comes to fight.

BH: Looking at your opponent, he apparently has some pop, but what can you tell us about this guy?

SO: He is a typical European fighter, from what I have seen of him he is a jab, straight right hand move forward kind of fighter. He may have a different game plan, we don’t know.

BH: You are taller than him, so in saying that do you feel you should establish the jab right off the bat and use your height, find your range and keep him away?

SO: I need to keep him at the end of my punches.

BH: There are some extremely big names in the 147-pound division, where do you feel you fit in the mix?

SO: I believe every fighter feels like they belong right there with the best, I feel with the right training and preparation, I feel like I can fit right in. The only thing, they have proven themselves, and I still have to prove myself.
