Nouakchott – Several Sahrawi associations staged, on Tuesday in Nouakchott, a sit-in in solidarity with Sahrawi activist Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud who is also holding an open sit-in before the UNHCR local bureau.
The associations flatly refused the conditions endured by Mustapha who has only demanded his legitimate right to reunite with his family in the camps of Tindouf.
The associations’ members handed letters to the UNHCR bureau and the Mauritanian Foreign Ministry calling for taking an immediate action to grant Mustapha his basic rights that are secured by the international law.
Zahra Haidara, an activist in France, told MAP that a hunger strike will be organized on Wednesday in the same location, warning that it might turn into an open hunger strike if the UN continues ignoring the demands of Mustapha.
Mohamed Salem Baika, also activist in Luxembourg, said that the case of Mustapha Salma shows that the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco is the ideal solution to the Sahara issue.
