The problems of safety and security are major challenges facing many African ports, Chairman of the Board of the directors of ports of Gabon, Ambroise Germain Banas observed.
“Everything depends on stability and peace in every country, because if things are not stable all we build is just a house of cards,” Germain told APA, on the sidelines of a session on ports as part of the second edition of the Crans Montana Forum which kicked off Thursday in the Moroccan city of Dakhla, 1700 km from Rabat, the capital.
Germain has also stressed the importance to allow the landlocked countries to benefit from the advantages of ports, explaining “there is the need for continuity of the quality of all the goods received to be transferred to other countries.”
Several issues turning around the challenges confronting the port infrastructures were discussed by the participants, including the multi-modality ports and connections to an increasingly growing hinterlands and the identification of new issues for port development in Africa.
