South Korea and Morocco will hold their first joint committee session in six years next week, Seoul’s foreign ministry said Friday.
Mounia Boucetta, a senior official at the North African country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, plans to visit Seoul for the 7th Joint Committee between the two sides, slated for Tuesday.
She will lead a 16-member delegation to the session to be co-chaired by Yun Kang-hyeon, Seoul’s deputy foreign minister for economic affairs.
Boucetta holds the official job title of “secretary of state.”
In the meeting, the two nations will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including the economy, trade, technology, culture and education, according to the ministry.
“It’s expected to serve as an opportunity to create favorable circumstances for the expansion of our companies’ businesses in Morocco,” it said.
The previous session was held in 2012.
Morocco was the first African country with which South Korea established a diplomatic mission. They forged diplomatic ties in 1962.
Morocco is widely viewed as a nation with a great growth potential on the basis of its political stability and strategically important location linking Africa, the Middle East and Europe, the ministry added.
