DUBLIN–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Research and Markets(http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/c1fb48/north_africa_telec) has announced the addition of the “North Africa Telecommunications Report Q1 2012” report to their offering.
This quarter, BMI has extended through to 2016 its forecasts for the fixed-line, mobile and broadband sectors in all four North African states: Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia. The year 2011 ended with political upheaval in three of these countries and quietly mounting pressure for change in the fourth. Inevitably, it is these changes that have coloured our outlook for all four markets, particularly regarding investment opportunities.
Algeria has yet to see any obvious political change, although the pressure to reform certainly exists. During Q311 – the latest period for which data were available for analysis at the time of writing – showed that the mobile market, at least, was growing within expected parameters. The licensing of 3G services and the threatened nationalisation of the operator Djezzy still had not occurred, although these events could still happen in Q112. Therefore, we have not significantly altered our forecasts for this market and believe there will be 42.2mn mobile subscribers by 2016, a penetration rate of 109.6%. Tunisia’s forecasts in all fields have been thoroughly revised this quarter as the regulator has begun providing regular statistical updates regarding the size of the country’s telecoms sector. While these data show that the fixed-line market is not deviating from previously reported trends, the mobile sector is cast in a new light as it appears that incumbent Tunisie Tlcom had previously been attributed with more customers than it actually had.
Therefore, our historical baseline data have been downsized. However, the market’s growth trajectory remains close to previous projections, and we adhere to this, now forecasting 14.78mn subscribers by 2016. 3G services are in their infancy, led by newcomer Orange and recently joined by the incumbent and its HSPA+ service.
