Investments of Renault-Nissan car maker group in Morocco were “well chosen,” said on Saturday CEO of the group, Carlos Ghosn.

“We chose the right country” to invest, Ghosn said in a press statement after a meeting in Rabat with Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane.

He said he was “very confident” that “the Tangier plant will see a very good development,” noting that this will be achieved “with the total commitment of Renault, but also with full support, on the one hand, of Morocco as a country, and of the Moroccan government.”

Ghosn described the talks with Moroccan Premier as “very constructive,” as it focused in particular on future plans for the Renault-Nissan plant in Tangiers, whose inauguration was presided over on Thursday by HM King Mohammed VI .

The meeting also focused on developing the fabric of local suppliers, improving the capacity not only for Renault, but also with the arrival of Nissan.

The two sides discussed “youth training in the region, as well as the impact of what happens in Europe on the Moroccan economy,” added the CEO of Renault-Nissan.

This project, whose overall volume of investment reached 1.1 billion euro, is expected to create about 6,000 direct jobs and 30,000 indirect jobs.

Production capacity will reach 30 vehicles per hour in 2012 and 60 vehicles per hour in 2014, which is equivalent to an annual production of 400,000 cars.
