The holy Islamic month of Ramadan is starting Tuesday, May 7, in Morocco, the ministry of Islamic affairs has announced.

Morocco is among countries that, in line with the hadith of the Prophet Mohamed, rely on the sight of the crescent moon.

Several other countries including Saudi Arabia, Australia, Qatar and all of Europe, kick off Ramadan on Monday.

For the occasion, the ministry of Islamic affairs of Morocco has sent 422 official preachers to European countries, including 361 imams and 29 mòrchidatés, or female preachers. Together they will ensure nighttime prayers in mosque ”in line with European laws”.

The holy month of Ramadan coincides with the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Fasting is the second essential pillar of Islam after the preaching of faith (shahadah), prayers five times a day (salah), charity (zakaat) and pilgrimage to the Makkah (hajj).(ANSAmed).
