(MAP) Washington – President of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), Driss El Yazami, ended on Wednesday a three-day visit to Washington, during which he examined with US officials, NGOs and experts cooperation prospects in the field of human rights.
In a series of meetings with senior officials from the US State Department, El Yazami highlighted the reforms undertaken in Morocco and examined the prospects to reinforce cooperation notably in fields relating to the rights of the disabled and the training of highly qualified human resources in human rights.
El Yazami also held talks with NGOs such as Human Rights Watch (HRW), Freedom House, the National Democratic Institute, The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights on the means to cooperate notably in observing elections.
The issue of Morocc’s reforms was also at the heart of a meeting between the CNDH President and US experts and researchers such as Professor of international relations William Zartman.
“I think there is a largely positive perception about Morocco’s constitutional reforms and at the same time a number of legitimate questions concerning the implementation of these reforms,” El Yazami told MAP at the end of his visit.
